This Privacy Policy explains how MetalFolio (“MetalFolio”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the MetalFolio mobile application (the “App”) and the website at metalfolio.app (the “Website”), and what choices and rights you have.
In short: MetalFolio does not ask for your name, email address or phone number, and there is no sign-up. Your portfolio stays on your device. We use a small number of service providers to run the App — for anonymous sign-in, price alerts, push notifications, analytics, in-app purchases and, for free users, ads. Each is described below.
1. Information we process
Anonymous app identifier
When you first open the App, it creates a random, anonymous identifier for your installation. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. We use it to keep your price alerts, settings and subscription status working and to deliver notifications to the right device.
Settings and app status
Together with that identifier we store your app preferences (such as currency, weight unit, language and notification preferences), your device time zone, the App version and platform, when the App was last used, whether onboarding was completed, and — if you choose to rate the App inside it — your rating.
Price alerts
If you create a price alert, we store the metal, your target price and the alert condition so that we can notify you when the market reaches it.
Portfolio data stays on your device
The holdings you add to your portfolios (asset, amount, purity, purchase price, fees and date) are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the App deletes this data.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, a push token for your device is processed so that alerts and notifications can be delivered. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Subscriptions are purchased and billed through Apple. We do not receive your payment card details. We receive information about your subscription — such as the product, purchase and renewal dates, trial status, App Store country and transaction identifiers — so that we can unlock MetalFolio Pro.
Usage analytics and diagnostics
The App records how its features are used (for example, which screens are opened and which actions are taken), app lifecycle events, crash and error reports, and technical information such as device model, operating system version, language and App version. This is linked to the anonymous identifier, together with basic attributes such as your currency, weight unit, language and whether you use MetalFolio Pro. An approximate location (country or city level) may be derived from your IP address. We use this to understand how the App is used, fix bugs and improve it — not to identify you.
Advertising
The free version of the App shows ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may process device information, your IP address and approximate location to serve and measure ads and prevent fraud. If you allow tracking when iOS asks (App Tracking Transparency), Google may also use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) to show more relevant ads. If you do not allow tracking, the advertising identifier is not shared. MetalFolio Pro removes ads.
What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address
- Precise (GPS) location
- Your contacts, photos or files — unless you explicitly choose to save or share something from the App
- Payment card details
2. How we use information
- To provide the App’s features: prices, alerts, notifications, settings and MetalFolio Pro
- To fix crashes and errors and keep the App secure and reliable
- To understand usage and improve the App
- To show ads to users of the free version
- To comply with legal obligations
Where data protection laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) apply, we rely on: performance of our agreement with you (providing the App and your subscription); our legitimate interests (analytics, diagnostics, security and non-personalized ads); your consent (push notifications, and tracking for personalized ads through App Tracking Transparency); and legal obligations.
3. Service providers
We share information only with providers that help us run the App, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Supabase — backend database and anonymous authentication (identifier, settings, price alerts, subscription status)
- OneSignal — push notification delivery
- PostHog (hosted in the EU) — product analytics and error reporting
- RevenueCat — in-app subscription management
- Google AdMob — advertising in the free version
- Apple — App Store distribution, payments and push notification infrastructure
- Cloudflare — hosting and security for the Website
- Market data providers — to retrieve prices; they do not receive information about you
Google acts under its own privacy policy for advertising; you can learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for purposes other than those described here, except where required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of users.
4. International transfers
Our service providers may process information in the European Union, the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Data linked to the anonymous identifier is kept while you use the App and deleted or anonymized after it is no longer needed. Technical logs are kept for a short period. Analytics and advertising providers retain data according to their own retention settings and policies.
6. Your choices
- Tracking: change App Tracking Transparency at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Notifications: turn them off in iOS Settings → Notifications → MetalFolio.
- Ads: upgrade to MetalFolio Pro to remove ads.
- Local data: deleting the App removes your portfolios and settings from your device.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email us at [email protected]. Because we do not know who you are, we may need information from you (for example, details shown in the App) to find the data that relates to your installation. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. The Website
metalfolio.app does not use its own cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the Website and protect it against abuse. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.
The home page can show an interactive price chart supplied by a third-party market data provider. The chart sets third-party cookies, so it loads only if you accept them in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. When it loads, the provider receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details and may set cookies under its own privacy policy. If you reject, the chart is not loaded and no third-party cookies are set. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage, and you can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. The legal basis for loading the chart is your consent.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
MetalFolio is a financial information app and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with an updated date, and where the changes are significant we will let you know in the App.
